what is reiki?
Reiki is a safe, gentle, non-intrusive hands-on healing technique for use on yourself or with others, which uses spiritual energy to treat ailments without using pressure, manipulation or massage; however it is much more than a physical therapy. it is holistic system for balancing, healing and harmonising all aspects of the person - body, mind, emotions and spirit - and it can also be used to encourage personal and spiritual awareness and growth.

The Japanese word Reiki (pronounced ''Ray Kee") is often translated as 'life-force energy', but a more accurate version is 'spiritual energy'.

Rei
Rei is translated as 'sacred', 'soul', or 'spirit', the wisdom and knowledge of all the Universe or atmosphere of the divine. It means the Higher Intelligence that guides the creation and functioning of the Universe; the wisdom that comes from God (or Source, the Creator, the Universe or All That Is), that is all-knowing, and which understands the need for, and the cause of all problems and difficulties, and how to heal them.

Ki is the life-force energy which flows through every living thing - plants, animals and people - and which is present in some form in everything around us, even in rocks and inanimate objects.

the word reiki in japanese
The word Reiki in Japanese is made up of two Kanji (logographic characters or symbols) The top Kanji depicts the deliberate action of a Shaman/priestess/priest/wise person to reach out to heaven to bring rain(help)down.
The lower Kanji depicts the staple food of the East - a grain of rice.

Looking at the two Kanji together can be described as heaven and earth coming together. We reach out to heaven for rain, and when it falls the rice can grow and nourish us throughout our life.

Reiki is an energy that allows and facilitates the interaction of spiritual energy into the material world.
